U.S.P.A.

Offering reliability rooted in history and authenticity, U.S. POLO ASSN. is the officially licensed brand of the UNITED STATES POLO ASSOCIATION, the International Olympic Committee’s recognized national governing body for the sport of polo in the USA.

The non-profit organization U.S. Polo Association (USPA) was founded in 1890 over a century ago and is the national governing body (NGB) for the sport of polo in the United States. It was created to organize the game and establish common rules for the benefit of its members during sport's beginnings in the United States. More than 2,000 years before, the earliest polo is believed to have begun in the area of ancient Persia, spreading eastward to China and Japan, where the nobles of the Heian era enjoyed the popular diversion.

From India, it came back with the British cavalry to England and then made its way across the ocean to New York City. Popular and powerful names were drawn to the dramatic contradiction of its warlike combat and social sophistication. American President Theodore Roosevelt was a known player, accomplished horseman and avid advocate of the pastime in his day. As was the equally dynamic sportsman, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Today, the Association manages the rules, handicaps (ratings), umpires, tournaments, equine welfare and more for over 300 clubs. In Japan, the heritage of polo has been handed down as an honored and traditional "royal event" and is often referred to as the “King of Sports” around the world.
